Charles McJilton is a social entrepreneur and humanitarian leader best known for establishing Japan’s first food bank. A former US military service member, he built his organization on the foundational philosophy of "Food for all people," challenging the cultural and bureaucratic gatekeepers that often obstruct aid.
His approach to leadership is rooted in deep personal experience, including a 15-month period living in a cardboard box along Tokyo's Sumida River to better understand those he served. He led major disaster response efforts following the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2024, McJilton graduated with a Master in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School.
